A Stoke Genius

“I’m drunk!” I yelled over my shoulder last night as Adrianne walked into the house. I had had a plan. I needed to sleep last night and had already slept in too late on my fake day off. I work a day shift in two days and I need to get some quality sleep before then.
Alcohol seemed like the answer.

I started by having a beer with dinner then moved on to the six pack of IPA I had just bought. By the time Adrianne got home an hour and half later there were only two beers left and I had just opened the fifth beer for the night.

Around midnight I passed out on my bed for a brief period of unconsciousness. I woke up at three and couldn’t fall back to sleep.

Let’s hope for a less drugged rest tonight before I go back to work.

Four Jobs:

Nurse At Mass. General Hospital
My first nursing job has taught me a lot not just about the profession but also about myself. I’ve wanted to be a nurse since I was in 6th grade and I’m finally one.

Nursing Assistant At Mayo
Good job to have while in Nursing school.

Spray Tan Associate
Possibly one of the worst jobs in the world. Assisting rich white women achieve a nice brown color with out the worry of wrinkles. The worst part was I had to use the spray tan as well which made me look dirty instead of tan and also smelled.

Life Guard
One of my favorite jobs. Sitting outside all day in the summer with other people your age and the free perc of always being able to go swimming

Four Movies
Garden State: I know some people say this is just a cheesy Emo movie but I think it’s a good look at over medication and family dynamic for our generation.

Amalie: She’s so darn adorable in her quest to fine love.

Napoleon Dynamite: If you didn’t like this you are and idiot.

The Notebook: I haven’t gotten Steve to watch it yet but always good when you need a good cry.

Four Places I lived

Four Places I’ve been on Vaccation

New York City-Both with family and friends and I always have a good time
Spain-I lived with a family and it was a very stressful situation not knowing Spanish well and them not knowing English.

An Akward Work Expirence

“Maria, can I talk to you?” She asked her eyes already red and swollen from crying.

“Sure” I answered puzzled by what bothered her.

“Your patient down the hall yelled at me, he said I was rude to him. He said that I didn’t help him. He said he will report me to our manager, I’ll loose my job if he does.”

I didn’t know what to say to her. I’ve never seen her be rude and my patient had been extremely pleasant all night. “I’ll go talk to him; maybe this is all a misunderstanding?” Is the best I could offer.

“Alright, thanks.” She squeaked out and walked quickly to the bathroom.

I felt trapped I had no idea what to do.

I’m the Lady

Yesterday I had an eye appointment. I walked to the eye doctor’s office about a mile and a half from my house. Between where the eye doctor is and where I live there is a bit of run down area of town, a place I would not like to walk alone after dark. This area also had a Starmarket.

“Perfect” I thought, “I’ll grab some groceries on my way home.”

The market was filled with people who looked like they were going to be paying with food stamps. Single moms talking about what types of cigarettes they smoked and about their no-good boyfriends stood around me in the check out line. One of the single moms was fighting with her child over weather or not he could buy candy. The child began to through a tantrum and ended up stepping on my foot. The mom grabbed the child’s arm and turned him towards me.

“Say ‘sorry’ to the lady,” she demanded.

I started to look around to figure out which lady they were talking about when I realized I was the lady. I have never felt so old in my life.

A Quick Visit

This weekend I went to New York City to visit my friend Ryan.

This picture was not taken while I was in New Yorks as I left my camra at home.

When I got there Ryan asked “What do you want to do while you’re here?” I have already taken multiple trips to New York with my family and was not interested in seeing any of the tourist attractions.

“I dunno,” I answered. “Why don’t you just do what you would be doing if I weren’t here and I’ll come with.” This turned out to be the best plan.

I love meeting my friend’s friends. Finding out who they related to outside the micro chasm of St. Louis Park is always interesting. Maybe all their friends are jocks, or weird artsy people or something totally different from high school.

Turns out Ryan’s friends are pretty cool and are not all jocks or artistic people. They are mostly an eclectic mix of people much like people from high school.

It Must Be the Bag

The man walking next to me chuckled as we both watched a small boy run in front of us with a plastic bag tied around the top of his head. The boy then tripped on the cobble stone side walk.

We both held back a laugh as the boy got up and continued to run around in a circle.

By the Fire

Steve and I rented a cabin this weekend and when making our reservation we had one requirement: it must have a fire place. Both of us had grown up in a house with a fire place and were looking foreword to warm ourselves in front of a roaring fire.

The two days we were in New Hampshire the temperature stayed in the mid fifties. Regardless of the warmth we were determined to enjoy our fire.

Steve getting ready to start a fire

We bought marshmallows, gram crackers, and chocolate and made smores. We pulled apart the couches and made a cozy bed in front of the fire where we spent both nights watching movies and listening to music.

Steve sure knows how to build a nice fire

The day we left the temperature dropped thirty degrees and it snowed.

I took this picture through the window because it was cold

Even if we didn’t have a winter get away we both agreed we had a great time.

A Good Night’s Sleep

I’m just coming off working two weeks on night shift. I don’t usually work that many nights in a row, but being that I’m new I had to work New Year’s Eve night shift and the nights around it. I got use to being up all night and sleeping through the day. Steve got use to it too.

On my days off we would both stay up until four in the morning and then sleep until three. Life was good, until Sunday.

Sunday was my first day back on day shift. I prepared for switching my days to nights by staying up way to late and sleeping in way too late. In other words, I was screwed.

Steve and I both laid in the dark on Saturday night hoping for sleep to come. I kept looking at the clock thinking “If I fall asleep now then I’ll get 4 hours of sleep.” The four hours soon become three, then two, the twenty minuets. My alarm finally went off and I got up to work an eight hour shift on zero hours of sleep.

In Living Color

When I was in Junior High I use to wear all black. If it wasn’t all black it was at least on the dark side of the color wheel. It wasn’t that I was Goth or anything. I just liked the color black.

Now things have changed. I try to buy shirts of every color. My closet is now a rainbow. I sometimes don’t really pay attention to all the colors I wear at once, which is why when Steve and I went shopping I was beginning to get looks.

We were in the bread aisle when Steve stepped back and looked at me.

“Are you wearing bright teal with a pink and red hat?”

All I could answer is yes and tell him that I love colors.

Undeck the Halls

The Holidays are over and it is time for life to go back to normal.

We left the tree up for a few days but we were tired of constantly having pine needles stuck to our feet and making our house a fire hazard. So the tree came down and our house is slightly less cozy feeling.

Would Dogs Wear Fur?

Tonight while I was coming into work I saw the “newest” thing in doggie fashion. A man walked passed me with his dog in a leather coat.

“Come on boy” the man encouraged the dog.
The beagle was wearing a coat that looked like it was made of leather and fake fur. He sped up his trot to keep up. While it did look adorable it made me wonder weather or not dogs would morally object to wearing other animal fur?
