Tourist in Boston

My aunt and uncle came to Boston for thanks giving so Paul and I took them to downtown cross for day-after-thanksgiving shopping. We felt like tourists looking around at everything so Paul and I decided to take this picture.

Nothing like sitting on a historical statue to make you feel like an out of towner.

Traveling Part II

Last week was the first time that I went home to just visit since I moved to Boston. I didn’t have a wedding to go to or a holiday to celebrate; I just went home to visit and spend time with my family. It was nice. I took my grandpa out to lunch, I sat with my grandma and talked to her, I had a home cooked dinner with my parents, and I spent some time with friends I don’t talk to enough.

Home was good and now I’m back in Boston, waiting until I can go back for Christmas.

Traveling Part I

I haven’t posted lately because I have been away from my computer. Last Thursday Steve and I got on a plane to fly to Canton Ohio where we borrowed his Dad’s Subaru and drove to Cincinnati where we stayed with his sister and her family. We attended a wedding of one of Steve’s childhood friends then climbed back in the Subaru and drove back to Canton where we flew back to Boston.

I spent Sunday and Monday night at Steve’s house then on Tuesday morning he drove me to the airport to fly home to Minneapolis so that I can visit my family.

That being said there will be a post in the future with much more substance and hopefully with some picture of St. Louis Park.

The List

I have a list of things I want to do while I live in Boston.

1. Vacation to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod.
2. Become proficient at driving in a big city
3. Go to a Red Sox game
4. Vote for a Kennedy

After living here for one and a half years I have only done numbers three and last Tuesday I did number four.

Best Therapeutic Communication Ever

Doctor: You need to stop smoking, you are prolonging your hospital course and not letting you body heal.

Patient: I told you I’m trying to quit, I haven’t smoked in, like, a day.

Doctor: Hmmm, (ruffling through his pockets for cell phone, opening camera phone) I took this picture of you smoking last night when I was leaving the hospital.

I had to leave the room for fear of laughing out loud so I never heard the patient’s response.

Insomnia

I’ve been staying up late to prepare myself for working nights shifts and I’ve had a realization in the past few days. All the good shows are on after midnight. I watched some of the best PBS specials, talk shows, and cartoons the last few days.

Want to know something about black holes? I can tell you because I’ve watched a few PBS specials about them. Questions about Sesame Street in South Africa? I’ve watched a very interesting special about Sesame Streets around the world. Conan O’Brian, Simpsons, and South Park all on after midnight and all worth a watch. If it’s two AM and your reading this turn off the computer and go watch some PBS.

It’s Going to be a Long Month

I try to put off Christmas shopping or any thing Christmas related until after Thanksgiving but this year I think it’s going to be especially hard. I went shopping yester day and every store I went to already had Christmas displays up and Christmas items for sale. In Barnes and Noble I had to stop myself from listening to the Julie Andrews does Christmas CD. Tons of Christmas related books sat under large nutcracker displays ready for me to read over them all and get into the Christmas spirit. I had to leave the store soon after I started to page through a book titles “Cats do Christmas” which featured many cats playing and doing adorable things with Christmas decorations.

For the next month I will either have to learn Christmas-self-control or avoid all commercial shopping areas.

Happy Halloween

Hope everyone had a better Halloween then I did.

Next year we'll hope for more trick-or-treaters.
